About

Blue Balloon Theatre is a female led, Manchester based and non-profit theatre company. The company acts as a platform for actors and creatives to develop and showcase their own, original work.

The company is co-run by two working class creatives from North Manchester; Rebecca Phythian, an actor, singer and poet, who founded the company in 2016 and her best friend, Jas Nisic, actor, singer, cartwheeler and proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, who joined in 2017.

We create an inclusive and supportive environment for creatives to work and perform in, regardless of background and experience. We embrace individuality and instil confidence into our creative community whilst offering accessible events, performances and opportunities to those who may not regularly have access. Our aim and ethos is to make it happen!

Working predominantly in the heart of Manchester City Centre, Blue Balloon have produced live events such as Spoken Word & Poetry Open Mic nights, Freedom of Expression: an evening of new writing, whether that's music, poetry, comedy or drama and a short performance of Rebecca’s play, Pill. We also coordinate and facilitate creative workshops for artists of all kinds. These include but are not limited to research and development workshops, poetry writing for all abilities and movement workshops.

During the pandemic, we decided to utilise Blue Balloon’s online presence to help others. We began to collaborate with creatives within the UK and internationally; offering opportunities regularly to stay creative. Since then, our social media has become the most vibrant and diverse it has ever been and Blue Balloon’s digital content has become an important part of what the company can offer artists and we strive to make it happen each week.
